Salton, AT, Eckhard D, Flores JV, Fernandes G, Azevedo G.  2016.  Disturbance observer and nonlinear damping control for fast tracking quadrotor vehicles, Sept. 2016 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA). :705–710., Buenos Aires: IEEE Abstract

This paper considers the design and implementation of a discrete-time fast tracking controller for quadrotor vehicles subject to perturbations. The proposed controller consists of a model-based disturbance observer and a Composite Nonlinear Feedback (CNF) controller. The CNF control law introduces nonlinear damping to the system so that it possesses a fast rise time without overshoot. The least square identification method is applied to develop a model based disturbance observer, thus decoupling the problems of track following and disturbance rejection. Experimental results are provided in order to validate the proposed approach.

This paper focus on indigenous people in the municipality of Altamira, in the State of Pará, Brazil, emphasizing the presence of indigenous people in urban areas and especially in the city of Altamira. The purpose here is to understand the dynamics and movements of these populations in regard to the data produced about them and the data produced by them. For that, data from fieldwork are used, as well as the demographic censuses data of 2000 and 2010, produced by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, and also information from surveys produced because of the construction of the hydroelectric plant of Belo Monte to identify the indigenous people living in the city. The paper intends to capture the processes by which the indigenous population has passed and still passes, highlighting the threats posed by the Belo Monte dam construction and by political forces that have put this population at risk. The results point to a growing presence populations in urban areas, mainly from the Juruna, Kuruaya and Xipaya ethnicities who once seemed to have decreased significantly, but underwent to a demographic recovery process in the city, associated with a political movement pivot around their ethnic identity since the 1990's.

Teixeira, FG, Thormann P, da Silva RP, da Silva TLK.  2015.  "Design gráfico" e a worldskills competition: verticalização do ensino e o mercado de trabalho, 2015. Competência - Revista da Educação Superior do Senac-RS. 8:75-90. AbstractFull Text

This article investigates the systematization of technical education in “graphic design”, issues related to curriculum and to structuring guidelines of technical courses at secondary level, and also its technological area. It also explains the use of specific nomenclature in each mode of education, the relations of the verticalization of technical education at secondary level, according to the Ministry of Education and considerations related to professional occupations listed in the Brazilian Classification of Occupations of the Ministry of Labor and Employment. The article also explores the national and international scientific competitions, associated with professional education at secondary level often entitled Knowledge Olympics or Professional Training Tournaments. The information presented uses the National Catalogue of Technical Courses proposed in 2008, the Brazilian Classification of Occupations, the Knowledge Olympics guidelines developed and organized by the National Service of Industrial Education, and the rules and guidelines of the International Tournament of Professional Training - WorldSkills Competition- as a checking basis. In addition, the study aims to reflect on a contribution to the labor market and also to the technological, scientific and cultural development of the society through the verticalization of technical education supported by scientific competitions in the graphic design field.

International Journal of Education and Research. 03:453-466. AbstractFull Text

The present study focused on the inclusion of visually impaired individuals in regular and special
need education based on the proposal of educational resources to be applied in different
disciplines. This study case involved the development of models of nanostructured systems. The
production of these models included image design and stylization, 3D virtual modeling and 3D
print. The representation techniques used in this study generated a didactic kit for the teaching of
nanostructured systems. The proposed models can be used for both sighted and visually impaired
students, whether blind or with low vision.

The objective of this study is to analyze population distribution in the state of Pará in Brazil using data from the2010 Population Census in association with the land use and land cover data from TerraClass arranged in a statistical grid. The role of 113 Protected Areas (including 46 Indigenous Lands, 51 Sustainable Use Conservation Units and 16 Integral Protection Conservation Units) is analyzed from the standpoint of their demographic rural-urban gradients and in terms of their land use cover. Information on the use and cover of land in Protected Areas along with census data were incorporated into a statistical grid using GIS. The spatial relationship of information layers in the cells indicates that the state's population is highly concentrated in a few areas, a pattern that is reproduced to some extent in the Protected Areas (Gini coefficient for the distribution of households is higher than 0.9). The area of the Protected areas is less populated and retains a greater extension of forested areas, by comparison to the state. Despite having extensive segments devoid of occupied households and the largest expanse of forest coverage (57%) in the state, Protected Areas also have urban areas associated with other uses and land cover change. The results indicate that population dynamics and changes in the uses and covering of land are related in a broader manner, thereby suggesting the need for reflection on urbanization and changes in land use and land cover change within a more integrated approach.

Gaelzer, R, Ziebell LF.  2014.  The dispersion relations of dispersive Alfvén waves in superthermal plasmas, December. Journal of Geophysical Research. 119(10.1002/2014JA020667) AbstractPDFWebsite

The effects of velocity distribution functions (VDF) that exhibit a power-law dependence on the high-energy tail have been the subject of intense research by the space plasma community. Such functions, known as superthermal or kappa distributions, have been found to provide a better fitting to the VDF measured by several spacecraft in the plasma environment of the solar wind. In the literature, the general treatment for waves excited by (bi-)Maxwellian plasmas is well-established. However, for kappa distributions, either isotropic or anisotropic, the wave characteristics have been studied mostly for the limiting cases of purely parallel or perpendicular propagation. Contributions for the general case of obliquely-propagating waves have been scarcely reported so far. In this work we introduce a mathematical formalism that provides expressions for the dielectric tensor components and subsequent dispersion relations for oblique propagating dispersive Alfvén waves (DAW) resulting from a kappa VDF. We employ an isotropic distribution, but the methods used here can be easily applied to more general anisotropic distributions, such as the bi-kappa or product-bi-kappa. The effect of the kappa index and thermal corrections on the dispersion relations of DAW is discussed.
