Prof. Dr. Edison Pignaton de Freitas received his Engineer degree in Computer Engineering from the Military Institute of Engineering, Brazil (2003), and his MSc degree in Computer Science from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil (2007). He received his PhD from Halmstad University, Sweden, (2011) and UFRGS, Brazil, (2011) in a joint PhD program in the area of sensor networks. During 2001-2002 he participated in an interchange program for Engineering students between Brazil and France, studying at Institut National des Sciences Appliquées, Toulouse, holding a scholarship from National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq) of the Brazilian Government.
Currently his holds a position as Associate Professor at Informatics Institute at UFRGS since 2014. From 2013 to 2014 he was Associate Professor at Federal University of Santa Maria. He worked as Computer Engineer and Researcher at the Brazilian Army from 2004 to 2013, working in several areas, such as tactical edge networks and aerospace defense projects. During his stay in France, from 2001 to 2002, he performed an internship at AIRBUS Central Entity in the Systems Department, working in the A380 airplane project. He is member of the Graduate Programs in Computer Science and the Graduate Program on Electrical Engineering, both at UFRGS. His main research interests are: Distributed Real-Time Embedded Systems and a number of related topics and aspects, mainly Wireless Sensor Networks, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Cloud Computing, Data Communication, System Automation, Requirements Specification and Security aspects.
